PublicationFlexural-strengthening efficiency of cfrp sheets for unbonded post-tensioned concrete T-beams( 2018)
;Long Nguyen-Minh ;Phuong Phan-Vu ;Duong Tran-Thanh ;Quynh Phuong Thi Truong ;Thong M. Pham ;Cuong Ngo-HuuMarián RovňákThere has been a limited number of studies about the flexural behavior of unbonded post-tensioned concrete (UPC) beams strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and these studies have not systematically examined the effect of CFRP sheets on the tendon strain as well as the strengthening efficiency. Moreover, current design guides for the FRP strengthening techniques have not provided any design procedure for UPC structures. This study, thus, investigates the influence of CFRP sheet ratio on the flexural behavior of CFRP-strengthened UPC T-beams and quantifies its effect upon tendon behavior in this kind of UPC beams. The testing program consisted of nine large-scale UPC T-beams strengthened by different layers of CFRP sheets with or without CFRP U-wrapped anchors. The experimental results have shown that the use of CFRP sheets and CFRP U-wrapped anchors significantly affected the tendon strain. The FRP reinforcement ratio governed the flexural capacity, the crack width, the mid-span displacement, and the ductility of the beams in which the strengthening efficiency reduces with the increased number of CFRP layers. The configuration of the CFRP U-wrapped anchors affected the strain of the CFRP sheets, the failure mode and thus the beam behavior. In addition, semi-empirical equations were proposed to estimate the actual strain of unbonded tendons in which the effect of the CFRP sheets and CFRP U-wrapped anchors have been taken into consideration. The proposed equations, which are simple to use, yield reliable predictions with a small variation. -
PublicationThe development of the architectural form of a tower derived from a traditional and philosophical symbol, realized by solutions of high-class technologies. The case of the Bitexco Financial Tower( 2018)
;Tran Van Khai ;D. Safarik ;Y. TabunschikovV. MurgulThe Bitexco Financial Tower, majestically standing tall in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, rejects the box-shaped, abstract forms of modernism, incorporating an innovative idea of contemporary architecture. Based on the inspiration from the Bitexco Group, a renowned architect designedthe tower that became an iconic landmark of the city in the form of a lotus bud, one of the most iconic symbols of Vietnamese culture since ancient times. High class structural system solution designed by top international professional teams enable the building to rise high with its graceful, statuesque design of the lotus flower shape. CNNGo recently ranked the Bitexco Financial Tower fifth in their listing of the world’s 20 most-iconic skyscrapers. -
PublicationIncorporate the rules of social segregation in solutions for the inhibition of the housing bubble in Vietnam( 2018)
;Van Khai Tran ;A. MottaevaB. MelovićUnlike the crisis in the U.S. which mainly started from the secondary investors and financial system, a great part of Vietnam’s housing bubble was caused by the primary investors. When businesses in Vietnam made lower profits, this led to rush investments in the real estate market, even from those primary investors who are newly established, have a lack of professionalism in housing development and knowledge of urban economics. Many of their projects were not possible to implement, leaving the market frozen with huge numbers of empty plots, houses and apartments. The review of urban sociology theories combining with deep analysis of the situation of Vietnam and the U.S had clarified the causes of the housing crisis in Vietnam. Many housing projects in the country are prepared without incorporating certain physical and social factors, leading to the lack of feasibility, and therefore, largely seen as the origin of the housing crisis. The proposed solution of this research was to incorporate physical and social factors in the projects represented by the correct selection of the appropriate housing status and dwelling quality for each social group. -

PublicationThe intergration of traditional and advanced design in the formation of sustainable new rural housing solutions( 2018)Trần Văn KhảiSocio-economic growth in Vietnam greatly depends on the new rural development process in this country; the work is considered a strategic position in national development. Thus, the study of the principles of the architectural design of new rural housing solutions in accordance with the New Rural Environment as required by the Vietnam Ministry of Construction has become urgent. Climate change has become a global concern, so the creation of significant impacts by architectural designs to respond to climate change and make the living environment of rural people better is a major demand. Experience has shown that the dogmatic application of current urbantype housing does not reach the requirements of New Rural Housing. This research intends to show that the solutions of the traditional Vietnamese rural house, which retains the advantages of traditional architecture with excellent characteristics that have been challenged over thousands of years, when combined with advanced design methodologies and technologies, will be the appropriate solution for ‘New Rural Housing’.

PublicationBuilding New Rural Areas in Vietnam( 2022)
;Nguyen Hay ;Le Quang HuyPham Van KienThe study focused on the orientations of building sustainable new rural areas associated with urbanization. This was very necessary, in order to develop a concentrated, commodity agriculture and to form residential areas and infrastructure, which were suitable to the process of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas. The agricultural sector was restructured, and the living conditions of rural people were improved close to those in urban areas. The project of the National Target Program on building new rural areas in Vietnam was analyzed. The program has achieved many expected results. In which, the construction of new rural areas has achieved great achievements. The basic socioeconomic infrastructure in the rural areas was strengthened in a synchronous direction. The sustainable development of the rural economy was in the direction of increasing added values and raised people’s incomes and gradually narrowed the gap between rural and urban areas. The work of landscape construction, implementation of environmental sanitation had a remarkable change.
