PublicationTrans Women’s Rights from The Perspective of Vietnamese Labour Law( 2022)Trần Thiên TrangThe rapid development in medicine has led to various legal issues related to transsexual persons. In terms of female workers' rights, it is worth considering the rights of male to female transsexuals (trans women) from the perspective of labour law. The question here is whether trans women have the same rights as those of female workers. In fact, trans women must use hormones to maintain their female characteristics during their lives, which make them weaker and shorten their life. Furthermore, after the sex transition, many parts of trans women's bodies shall have significant changes such as the face, skeleton, muscle, genitals and so on. At this point, trans women should be treated in the same way as `women-born-women'. Since this issue may become a heavy burden for trans women, the paper aims to have an insight on the current Vietnamese labour law concerning mainly (i) the trans women's right to raise a child under twelve months of age and (ii) retirement ages. This paper is structured into three main sections. The first section aims to shed light on the re-consideration of the modern feminist theory on who are counted as women. The second section takes a view of trans women's rights from the perspective of labour law. The final section is for conclusion and recommendations. It is pointed out that in the Vietnamese legal context that trans women workers may easily become victims of discrimination because of the lack of specific regulations. It is worth stating that the gap of legal procedures and provisions related to gender recognition for trans women could be barriers preventing trans women from enjoying the rights of female workers under the Vietnamese Labour Code. To summarize, this study is necessary, especially in the context that Vietnam is currently drafting the Law on Gender transition. The Feminist Legal Theory and the methodology of analysis, comparison, and synthesis of legal dispositions are used to analyse the mentioned matters.

PublicationPSYCHOLOGICAL EMPOWERMENT AND EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT: ROLE OF JOB SATISFACTION AND RELIGIOSITY IN NIGERIA( 2022)Vu Minh HieuThis paper aims to examine the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between psychological empowerment and employee engagement. There is also an investigation of the moderating effect of religiosity on psychological empowerment and job satisfaction as well as job satisfaction and employee engagement. Design/methodology/approach Data were obtained from 265 employees working in the service industry in Nigeria. The hypotheses were tested and analyzed using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping procedure. Findings The results show that the direct relationship between psychological empowerment and employee engagement was partially mediated by job satisfaction. Intrinsic religiosity was found to have a moderating effect on job satisfaction and employee engagement. Religiosity (intrinsic and extrinsic) does not moderate the impact of psychological empowerment on job satisfaction and employee engagement. Extrinsic religiosity was found to have a negative insignificant moderating effect on job satisfaction and employee engagement. Research limitations/implications A cross-sectional study reveals the relationship between variables at one point in a time. As such this study may not precisely predict the dominant pattern of the association over time. Future research can use longitudinal study to establish a dominant pattern of relationships. Practical implications This study informs human resource practitioners and scholars by demonstrating that religiosity and job satisfaction are important factors that should be considered in managing and keeping employees engaged. Originality/value This study is among the first attempts to enrich the literature in the fields of psychological empowerment and employee engagement by highlighting organisational mechanisms that amplify the relationship.

PublicationThe role of technological innovation and cleaner energy towards the environment in ASEAN countries: proposing a policy for sustainable development goals( 2022)Fengsheng Chien, Ching-Chi Hsu, Amena Sibghatullah, Vu Minh Hieu, Thi Thu Hien Phan & Nguyen Hoang TienThe association between economic growth (EG) and environmental degradation (ED) has been highlighted extensively in prior studies. However, investigation regarding ‘technological innovation and clean energy role’ in dealing with environmental concerns has comprised limited context while considering the ASEAN economies under sustainable development goals. Therefore, the study attempts to investigate the phenomenon by using CS-ARDL analysis under short as well as long run. The findings through CSARDL in long- and short-run indicate that REN have impact carbon emission and ecological footprints negatively. Additionally, the EG in targeted economies is causing a higher level of CE and ecological footprints. Whereas, GDP2ofund to be significant in lowering the ED in the form of CE and ecological footprints. It is suggested that policies related to CE through EG should be developed in order to control the environmental issues in the future.

PublicationSpatial interaction and the provincial economic structure transformation: Evidence from Vietnam( 2022)
;Bac Truong CongHanh Vu Thi KimDue to its crucial role in sustainable development, the economic structure transformation has attracted much attention at both national and provincial levels. For various reasons, the importance of regional linkages, especially spatial interaction in economic structure transformation, is not recognized and thus ignored in economic policies. This study addresses this literature gap with an empirical analysis of taking Vietnam as the study area and examines the impact of spatial interaction with metropolises on the provinces' economic structure transformation. To evaluate the impacts, this paper used Moran I statistic based on the geographic information extracted from GADM (Database of Global Administrative Areas) and the data of economic structure in the period from 2015-2018, collected from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. The spatial panel data analysis is then performed to interpret spatial interaction influences on economic structure transformation extensively. The results show that the regional relationship can explain economic structure transformation by clustering economic activities in provinces. The spatial interaction with metropolises has positive effects on provinces' economic structure transformation. As such, stronger linkages with metropolises through investing in the transportation system, especially the infrastructure connecting areas, could also play a crucial role in reducing agricultural sector share in provinces' economic structure. -
PublicationCác nhân tố ảnh hưởng đến động lực khu vực công: Nghiên cứu thực nghiệm tại TP Cam Ranh tỉnh Khánh Hòa( 2022)
;Lê Xuân NamNguyễn Duy ThụcThis paper examines the turn-of-the-year (TOY) effect in fifteen Asia Pacific stock indices by using an updated dataset. The analysis utilizes the daily datasets spanning from 2000 to 2018. Applying the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and the Exponential Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic (EGARCH) approach, the results of this paper suggest that the TOY effect becomes detectable again after the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in developed markets with the tax year not ending in December. Furthermore, the magnitude of this anomaly diminishes in emerging markets after the GFC, which is consistent with the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH). The evidence of the leverage effect in the market volatility shows in negative shocks that it is considerably higher than that of positive shocks for all markets. This phenomenon is more evident in mature markets compared to emerging markets. The positive connection between the leverage effect and stock market volatility is seen with diminishing magnitude during the stable market condition after the GFC. -
