Abstract
This study aims to analyze the existence of historical heritage buildings during the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia and Vietnam, which were formerly French colonies, which require preservation because they have historical, scientific, educational, religious, and cultural values through determination. The problems are (1) How to preserve cultural heritage buildings and historical heritage in Indonesia; (2) How to conserve cultural heritage buildings in the Kota Lama Semarang area. This research uses a qualitative approach. Then the analysis is carried out by classifying the data for each aspect, compiled and systematized, and interpreted and explained qualitatively. The results showed that (1) The preservation of cultural heritage buildings in Indonesia by maintaining the Cultural Heritage Buildings of the former Dutch colonization in the Kota Lama Semarang area so that they do not experience damage and change buildings’ function is not following the original. The preservation and development of this area are directed to resemble the original; both the buildings and the street names are returned to the way they were in the Dutch era. (2) Conservation of cultural heritage buildings in the Kota Lama Semarang area as national cultural heritage to preserve cultural heritage buildings. Identify the significance of cultural heritage buildings to determine the type of treatment so that cultural heritage buildings are expected to be managed appropriately and sustainably. The preservation of cultural heritage buildings is carried out in stages to produce cultural heritage building products that have values and benefits for the community and design a model for preserving community-based cultural heritage buildings.
